Otgon Tenger Uul means ‘Son of the Sky’ and is one of three sacred mountains in Mongolia; Khan Khentii Uul and Bogd Khan Uul are the other two. Worshipping at these mountains began during Khunnu times by the first governing state of Mongolia, and this tradition continues to the present day. Genghis Khan first identified these three mountains as sacred mountains in the thirteenth century, and they were worshipped by his empire. History states that Genghis Khan’s funeral procession traveled from the Tangad state to Otgon Tenger.
Embark on an eight-day pilgrimage to Erdenezuu monastery and the ruins of Kharkhorin, eventually arriving at Otgon Tenger Uul. Learn about the Mongol connection to nature, their adoption of Buddhism in the 16th century and the role the mighty Khans played in establishing a lasting spiritual heritage.
SPECIAL NOTE: It is said that once every four years a universal gateway opens on Otgon Tenger Uul, offering great blessings and a strong connection to a great universal energy source. Your itinerary:
Leave the capital Ulaanbaatar for Kharkorum, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Visit the Erdenezuu monastery to learn about the influence of Buddhism in Mongolian culture. Visit the Kharkorum ruins to learn about Ghenghis Khan and his influence on Mongolian culture. Overnight stay at a ger camp along the Orkhon River.
Continue to drive to White Lake, a beached lake next to the dormant Khorgo volcano. Hiking up to the volcano’s summit and spend the night on the banks of White Lake.
Arrival in the Tosontsengel area. Overnight stay near a hot spring.
A day of hiking through mountain scenery.

Travel to a region known for its sand dunes.
A resting day in the sand dune region. Enquire with our team for possible activities such as horse and camel riding.
Reach Otgon Tenger Uul, where you will make an offering to ask for a great universal blessing. Continue on to a secluded lake for a blessing of wealth and prosperity in life.
Transfer to Uleastae airport and flight back to Ulaanbaatar.
